Setting up a VM

In this section we will setup a Virtual Machine which satifies the requirements for running ROS2 Humble Hawksbill.

🔧 What You Need:

• Ubuntu 22.04
  • Iso standard file https://releases.ubuntu.com/jammy/ A lightweight version of ubuntu is raccomanded for extra prerformance.
  • Ubuntu mate: https://ubuntu-mate.org/download/amd64/jammy/
  • Xubuntu: http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/ubuntu-dvd/xubuntu/releases/22.04/release/
  • Lubuntu: https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/jammy/release/ (You can pick any of the images in the list since they are all capables of getting ROS2 Humble Hawksbill running.)
• Virtual Box
  • Choose right VirtualBox Platform Packages https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

💽 Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Install Oracle Virtual Box
   • ⚠️ if it failed and we have to install Microsoft Visual C++
     • download the right version from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

Next we will need a Ubuntu 22.04 image for our VM. A lightweight version of ubuntu is raccomanded for extra prerformance.
